Family Sponsorship

THE ROBERTS FAMILY SPONSOR PROGRAM was created to support families of Roberts Elementary who are seeking treatment at the Texas Medical Center. Some children attend Roberts Elementary because they or a family member are visiting the Texas Medical Center for treatment of a critical illness. Many of these families have come from outside the United States. Addressing a critical illness can be overwhelming for a family, particularly when combined with the introduction of a new city, a new school, a different culture, and a foreign language.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The Roberts Family Sponsor Program utilizes volunteer families interested in welcoming and supporting families whose children are attending Roberts while they or a family member are seeking medical treatment.

This program provides visiting families the opportunity to call on a Family Sponsor if needed during the school year. When connections are made between a Family Sponsor and a family, friendships develop and a sense of community is fostered. The benefits of caring and sharing are experienced by everyone involved in the program.

The Roberts Social Worker confidentially matches interested families with a Family Sponsor. Because many families are from outside the United States, written correspondence about the program is translated when possible.

Contacts continue to be made with social workers at area hospitals and supporting organizations. By connecting with these networks, Roberts will be better equipped to channel assistance to families requiring specific needs.
