Ms. Juyne Sauer is the Roberts music teacher.

All students at Roberts Elementary study singing and listening. They prepare to perform in programs and play classroom instruments using the Orff Schulwerk approach. Students are encouraged to become independent musicians by developing some note reading and rhythm reading skills as well as improvisation and learning parts on Orff instruments (xylophones). Rhythm, beat and movement are strongly emphasized and creativity is encouraged.

Roberts also has an after school Concert Choir for third-fifth graders. Students who desire to sing and perform attend rehearsals three days a week for one hour. The music skills taught in general music are extended and performance is the goal.

Music at Roberts is taught with the belief that all children can become active listeners and performers and that all can develop an appreciation for all types of music.

Piano and Violin Lessons

The piano and violin programs are offered by talented, experienced professionals. Any student interested in participating in the piano and violin program MUST commit to a full year of lessons and practice. All lessons are scheduled during the school recess time. This music program has a limited amount of space and requires a commitment from home. Students who are only attending the lesson once a week and not committing to practice daily are unable to make progress on the instrument.

There is a $100.00 fee for each student per semester enrolled in piano or violin. We request that students who sign up for lessons have a piano or keyboard (for the piano program) or a violin (for the violin program) at home for practice. Continuing violin/piano students have first priority.

If you have any questions about these lessons, contact Pat LaPadula, Magnet Coordinator, at 713-295-5272, 9:30-5:30. or email him at plapadul@houstonisd.org. You may also contact Al Campbell or Bessie Wang, 713-295-5272 between 9:30am-5:30pm.
