More information about the Animal Library: In March of 2003, the Roberts Animal Library was created. It has quickly become a wonderful way to expose our children to many different types of animals from many different parts of our world.

The members of our Animal Library are not cute, cuddly, fuzzy, pet types of animals. In fact, most of them are not for handling and one (our Tokay Gecko) doesn't even like to be looked at. Instead, these animals were chosen because of their uniqueness and adaptive qualities and because of the far away country their species comes from. They are animals we would normally never be exposed to in everyday life: animals we would normally never have the opportunity to observe.

Our educators "check" out the animals for a week at a time. The animals then spend 2-3 weeks in that classroom, being observed, cared for and enjoyed; some classes write poems about the animals, some write about their observations in their journals and some research their country of origin.

Roberts is committed to the proper care and humane treatment of these animals. Much research on the part of our Science Teacher went into learning about these animals prior to purchase.

Talk with your child about our animals. They can tell you stories about most of them. They are working very hard to earn one for their class and are very interested in learning and discovering more about them.
