Science Fair
March 1st 2005 Update: At this age, "science" is learning how the world works; learning how to answer questions using experinece, logic, research and/or experimentation. For the science fair there are four different levels of difficulty.
Choose a level that is age/grade level appropriate for your child.
- Poster Projects: A diagram, illustration, table, chart or other display of "science" information available in books, manuals or other printed materials.
- Hobby Collection & Collection Projects: A chart, illustration, model, collection or report based on investigation by the student. In this level, students' own thoughts must be apparent in the data, organization and/or interpretation of the project.
- Model Building and Demonstration Projects: Create a working model based on the understanding of a scientific principle or a demonstration and explanation of an experiment.
- Experiment and Investigative Projects: Attempt to answer a question by designing an experiment or correlation study in which important variable are controlled.
March 10th 2004 Update: Everyone who
has entered the science fair should have a booklet by now. If your child
has not received a booklet, please email Ms. O'Reilly.
Science fair is coming April 5th!!! February
20th is the last day to register for a science fair project. Tri-fold
bulletin boards can be purchased in the school store or from Ms. O'Reilly.
White boards are $4.00 and colored boards are $4.50.
Points of interest about the Science Fair:
- There are 4 levels of difficulty-you and your child
can choose an age appropriate project.
- Your child will enjoy learning how to solve problems
and answer questions through reasoning and research.
- There is so much help for you out there. Check out
our website from
2003 for great links.
- There is also in-house help: call Kim O'Reilly at home
(she is in the Roberts directory) or email her with questions, concerns
or to set up a meeting at the school.
- The date of the exhibit is Monday April 5th at 8:00A.M.
The exhibits will be set up in the cafeteria that afternoon (after
the fair) so our children can take in-house field trips to see everyone's
project.
- Imagine how proud your child will feel to be rewarded
for his/her hard work. All participants will receive a reward for
their perserverance and effort.
